Misty River Lass (Irish Draught mare)

BACK

(RNE Shore x un-named RID by Bawnlahan)

In November of 2006 the Irish Draught world lost a truly great mare when the wonderful Misty succumbed to colic and had to be sent ahead to the Rainbow Bridge. Rest well my dear friend, I hear the grass is particularly good up there.

In the summer of 2005, Misty went to live with her daughter, Lizzie and her "mom", Janeen, in Michigan.
Take a look at their first meeting in 6 years! The stately old broodmare (on the left) and her young daughter, a broodmare herself now.

This lovely Irish Draught mare was imported from Ireland. She is from the legendary King of Diamonds jumping family (and is thus related to such Grand Prix jumpers as Hopes are High, Mill Pearl, Millstreet Ruby and Special Envoy). She is half sister to Killian II who won Team and Individual silver medals at the 1996 European Championships for Young Riders. Many of her sire's progeny are now making a name for themselves in the jumping arena and eventing field.

Her dam is half sister to the great Clonfert and brings several crosses to the more rare bloodlines of Woodranger and Comet.

Misty is a superb blend of "performance" and "traditional" bloodlines. She has a nice jump, having "popped" a 5' vertical several times whilst being loose schooled. Misty is our "Gentle Giant", our "Miss Manners"...the most easy girl to be around. She has a very serious nature and would like everyone to think that she is aloof....but we know better! She has good bone with exceptionally short cannon bones and a length of rein that pleases us immensely...an altogether beautifully put together mare with presence to burn and the type of temperament that makes her a pure joy to be around.
